There is a new "oldest Apple ][+ I have ever seen" (or at least, seen a label for). Prior to this, it was A2S2-11547. The new smallest serial number (on an Apple ][+, A2S2-) that I've seen is A2S2-10087:
Board date: second week of October 1979.
And: It's in my office.

Hi, nice example of an early II Plus! What model power supply does it have? I'm wondering when exactly Apple transitioned from the A2M001 PSU that the first Apple II & II Pluses had to the later model 605-5703 that the vast majority came equipped with. I've also seen what I assume is a "transitional" A2M0030 model where it looks like the "30" is written in black marker over the "1" on the label. ..a bit strange, but I've seen this on at least 3 different examples.
Hi -- sorry, been traveling around a lot. Also, I've moved all of this over to yesterbits.com (though I have a bit of work left to do) so this isn't really the "permanent" home of this post anymore.
The power supply in this machine just says A2M0030-001877, nothing is handwritten on top, and it does have that little window on the back.
The "terrarium" PSU (motherboard 8050) has one that says 605-5701 serial #014544. I really haven't paid much attention to the model numbers of the power supplies, but I see that they do vary. I knew that there was this kind of physical difference in whether that window was there or not. Hmm. Interesting. I'll need to take inventory.
As for what you mention, I have also seen a few examples of a model number handwritten over another one on old power supplies, but I didn't note any of the numbers or characteristics of the machines they were in. I'll see if I have any like that though at some point (though I doubt it, I expect that the one in the 10087 is the oldest one I've got).
